The blizzard of '78

Monday, February 6, 2012 I was too young to personally remember, being only three at the time, but Dad still mentions it.
This storm happened exactly 34 years ago, originating from an extra-tropical cyclone off the coast of the Carolinas, which merged with an Arctic cold front and created perfect low-pressure system for the blizzard from hell. Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island were hit especially hard.
A record 27.6 inches of snow fell in Boston from February 5 to February 7; unfortunately, there was massive flooding in addition to the snow, due to the storm coinciding with a new moon and an unusually high tide.
Thanks to Ryan Owen of Forgotten New England, a blog which every New England genealogist should read regularly, for inspiring this post!
