Some fun with Photoshop and scrapbook designs

Thursday, July 28, 2011 Photoshop is so cool. Thanks to that program, and to Judy, who creates some amazing digital gorgeousness, I did the following...
I took rectangular photos of my paternal grandparents that I had scanned to my computer:

... and, using the ellipse tool, made them oval (the gray background in the Mac preview means that the background is actually transparent):

Then I imported a digital double frame with a transparent background, designed by Judy, and then imported the oval pictures of my grandparents that I had just created.
I dragged the photos into the frames, and dragging the photos by the edge, made them bigger and moved them around a bit until they fit and filled the frames perfectly:

After saving this, I created a blank background (1000 by 800 pixels-- I wanted it to be good-sized) and made the background color off-black.
Then I imported the transparent-backgrounded double frame with my grandparents' pictures and put it onto the off-black background. Saved it.

I thought the darker color really made the design of the frame pop.
Finally, I fit the pictures with the mat inside a "frame" (the frame was originally gold; to make it coordinate, I had decreased the saturation to make it look silver).
Voila:
